Dad died eight weeks ago last night. I had a dream about him for the first time since he passed away.
I was at the house I grew up in at Hill City. I was going to leave and go to my house which was north and east of there which is like how I would go to my house I had in Colby. I decided I was not going to walk all that way this time so decided to take one of the cars parked at Mom & Dad's house. There was the 1960 Chevrolet station wagon, the 1964 Dodge Dart, Dad's red work van, Mom's old green Buick, and my red Dodge Dynasty all parked on the street and in the drive way. I decided to take my own car. I got into it on the drive way and the north garage door opened up as I opened the door of the car. I don't know what Dad had done to my car but it immediately began to roll backwards. (I have dreams of my car rolling backwards a lot - Must be my feelings of being out of control.) I plopped down on the seat behind the steering wheel and tried to control it but my legs were still outside the car. I knew I needed to hit the breaks but I could not get my legs to pick up to get to the break pedal. I tried and tried but could not get my legs to move- neither one would move. I started to steer the car backwards down the street. I also thought that if I can't press on the breaks maybe if I put the gear shift into park the car would stop. That did not work either. The car kept rolling towards the school play ground.
The next thing I remember is walking up to the house and thinking that as the garage door opened I heard the air compressor start. Dad must have been going to put air in the tires. I walked upstairs and Dad was sitting in a dining chair with his back to me. I walked up behind him and gave him a hug and said "Well, did you get air in the tires?"
I started to wake up from this dream and could hear the air conditioner running and I was trying to move my legs in bed but they would not move. I suppose that was what was causing the out of control feelings in my dream.
Dad did not say anything to me and I only saw him from the back and gave him a hug.
Love you, Daddy! I sure miss you!
Rose
