Old Lady Dork Club (OLD)

For my 60th birthday in March my sister, Karen, announced that there is a new club and I have been named as president.  The Old Lady Dork Club (OLD).  I do not know how I might qualify for this club other than turning 60.  I keep trying to pass the office off to her but she is not this old yet.  Over the last couple months I suppose I have proven my presidency position.

In October I went to Wichita to help both Emily and Dianne as they were preparing to move into new homes.  Emily has a daughter that is almost 3 and Dianne has a daughter that just turned 3 years old.  I can help box, clean and (most importantly) keep kiddos out of their mom's way so they can get something done.  While watching Flora at Emily's new house I slid down the steps on my back side for 3-4 steps.  I just thought it was that I was wearing socks and no shoes.  I was fine, just a little surprised.  The next day we were upstair and ready to come down and Flora said she did not want me to fall again.  Neither did I want to fall again.  I was wearing my tennis shoes this time.  You guessed it.  I slid on a step and fell down 4-5 steps this time.  I was fine but even more surprised than the day before.  What is going on?  As it happens, Emily staircase that go up to the bedrooms is beautiful but the stair treads are a bit narrower than regular stairs and this must be what caused me to slip by my foot going further over the front edge of the step than usual.  I definitely had a tender and bruised rump for a while.  OK. I suppose this is my induction as president of The Old Lady Dork Club.

Now--A couple days ago, back in Wichita, I was shopping for shoes.  I tried on one that I liked the look and feel of so decided to put on the other shoe to walk around a little to get a good feel for the pair.  I balanced on the foot with the new shoe on it to kick off the tennis shoe from the other foot. My ankle turned and I lost my balance.  There was nothing I could do but roll with the fall.  Roll is the key word here.  As I was falling backwards my first thought was weather there was a rack or mirror behind me that I would hit and cause a big mess.  I seemed to fall in slow motion.  As I hit the floor on my rear the momentum of the fall carried me on backwards and I rolled back, hit my head on the floor, kept rolling and my legs flew up in the air, then rolled back to the floor.  I lay on the floor with arms and legs sprawled out in all 4 directions and laughed.  Karen was with me and what seemed like slow motion to me seemed to happen so fast to her.  As first she was stunned and knew there was nothing she could do to stop the fall but then she started laughing also.  I just lay there laughing.  When I finally got up off the floor and quit laughing, I took off the shoe I was trying on and said, "I really did not think this was the pair of shoes for me."  I continued shopping and did actually find a pair of shoes that I liked and bought.  I was in Famous Footwear and suppose it was caught on security video.

I guess I just sealed my Old Lady Dork Club presidency for a while longer.  I am really a dork.
